What the job involves
We start at the equipment, not the wall. We confirm what your system is, how many stages it runs, and whether the existing wire bundle has a common wire for steady power. Many older homes in the region were wired for a simple heat pump thermostat and need a C wire pulled or an adapter added at the air handler. Then we mount the new thermostat level, set the equipment type and heat pump settings, and run the system in cooling and heating to watch what actually turns on.
What we check and install
We check the wire count and colors at both ends, transformer capacity, the reversing valve setting, and how auxiliary heat is being called. On heat pumps that setting matters most, because a wrong configuration runs strip heat on mild mornings and drives your bill up. We install the thermostat, connect it to your Wi-Fi, set schedules and temperature limits you tell us you want, and show you the app screens that matter. If a wall plate leaves a gap or old paint, we cover it cleanly.
How we decide it is the right call
A smart thermostat is worth doing when your equipment is in decent shape and your comfort problem is scheduling, remote control, or humidity awareness. It is the wrong fix if the real issue is low refrigerant charge, a failing blower motor, or duct leakage, because a nicer thermostat does not move more air. We will say so and quote the actual repair instead. Some multi-stage and variable-speed systems also work better on the manufacturer's own control, and we will tell you when that is the case.

Do I need a C wire for a smart thermostat?
Most smart thermostats need constant power from a common wire. If your wire bundle does not have one, we can often pull a new wire or add a power adapter at the air handler during the install.
Will a smart thermostat work with my heat pump?
Yes, if it is configured for heat pump operation with the correct reversing valve and auxiliary heat settings. That configuration is where most self-installs go wrong and where we spend the most care.
Can you install a thermostat I already bought?
We do. Bring it out of the box and have the model handy when you call. If it will not support your system's staging, we will tell you before we start rather than after.
