What the job involves
A UV lamp mounts in the air handler cabinet where it shines on the evaporator coil and the wet drain pan, the two spots that grow mold in our humid summers. Ventilation work is different. That can mean a fresh air intake, a bath or kitchen exhaust that actually vents outside instead of into the attic, or balancing return air so rooms stop fighting each other. We size and place the equipment based on your system, then wire and mount it and check operation before we leave.
What we check or install
We start with the coil, the drain pan and the blower compartment, because dirt and standing water tell us more than any brochure. We look at filter fit and any air bypassing the filter rack. We check static pressure and return sizing, since a starved system pulls attic and crawlspace air. Then we look at humidity readings in the living space. From there we install coil sterilization lamps, in-duct air treatment, upgraded filtration or a controlled fresh air path, and we replace UV bulbs on schedule.
How we decide it is the right call
UV light is a good fit when the problem lives on a wet surface inside the system. If your complaint is dust, pollen or pet dander, better filtration and sealed ductwork do more. If the house feels sticky and smells damp everywhere, we look at humidity control and duct leakage first, because a lamp will not dry out a house. We tell homeowners which of those they have. Sometimes the honest answer is a coil cleaning and a drain repair, and we say so.

Do UV lights replace changing my filter?
No. A lamp treats the coil and drain pan surfaces it can see. Airborne dust and pollen still need a properly fitted filter, changed on a regular schedule, with no gaps around the filter rack letting air slip past.
How often does the bulb need replacing?
Most coil lamps lose output well before they go dark, so they are replaced on an annual or biannual schedule depending on the model. We note the install date and check output when we are out for maintenance.
My house smells musty when the AC starts. Is that a UV problem?
Often it starts at the coil or the drain pan, which UV can help with. But it can also be duct leakage pulling humid attic air. We check both before recommending equipment.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptoms
You describe what changed. No cold air, a breaker that keeps tripping, water near the air handler, a smell, a noise. That gives us a head start on parts before we ever leave the shop.
- Step 2
We diagnose on site
A technician checks the thermostat, the electrical side, airflow through the filter and coil, refrigerant behavior and the outdoor unit. We look at the whole system, because a frozen coil usually points somewhere else.
- Step 3
You decide the repair
We explain what failed, what it takes to fix it, and how long the rest of the system is likely to hold up. You pick the repair. We do not start work you did not approve.

Why homeowners call us
- Rural routes are normal for usWe drive long stretches between calls and we plan for it. Trucks carry the common heat pump and air conditioner repair parts so a diagnosis does not turn into a second trip on a hot afternoon.
- Heat pumps and sandy soilMost homes we visit run a heat pump, and sand, lawn clippings and pollen pack the outdoor coil fast. We clear it, check the defrost side in winter, and show you what we found before we close it up.
- Well water housesHomes on well water bring their own quirks, from pump-driven electrical noise to hard water on drain lines and condensate pans. We know where those systems clog and where the slow leaks hide.
- Heating repair tooCold snaps in this region are short and hard. We do heating repair and heater repair on heat pumps, strip heat and furnaces, so one crew handles your system in July and again in January.
- All major brands, gas & electricOne independent crew for Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem and more.
- Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
