What the installation actually involves
We start inside. The indoor head goes high on an exterior wall where air can reach the whole room, clear of ceiling fans and lights. Then we core a small hole for the refrigerant lines, condensate drain and control wiring. Outside, the condenser sits on a pad or wall bracket, up off sandy ground so it does not settle or wash out. We run a dedicated circuit, pull a vacuum on the lines, release the charge and test heating and cooling before we leave. Most single-head jobs finish in a day.
What we check and install
Before we quote anything we check the electrical panel for room for a new circuit, measure the room for the right BTU capacity, and look at wall construction and insulation. Oversizing a mini-split is a real problem: it short cycles, never pulls humidity out, and the room feels clammy. We install the indoor head, the outdoor unit, the pad or brackets, line set, disconnect, condensate management and the wall sleeve. On second-floor heads we plan the drain route carefully, because gravity draining beats a pump every time.
How we decide a mini-split is the right call
A ductless system makes sense when running duct to a space would mean tearing into finished ceilings, or when one room sits ten degrees off the rest of the house. Shops, sunrooms, garage offices and additions are the usual candidates. If your central system is simply undersized or the ductwork is leaking in a hot attic, fixing that is often the better answer and we will say so. Multi-head systems can cover several rooms off one outdoor unit when the layout suits it. We walk the house and tell you plainly.

Can one mini-split cool my whole house?
Usually not on its own. A single head conditions the space it can see. Multi-head systems serve several rooms from one outdoor unit, but doors, hallways and closed bedrooms limit airflow. We size after walking the layout.
Does a mini-split heat as well as cool?
Yes. These are heat pumps, so the same equipment reverses and heats the room through our cold snaps. In our climate that covers most winter days without any separate heater in that space.
How much maintenance does a ductless system need?
The indoor head has washable filters you rinse and dry every month or so. Beyond that, the coil and drain need cleaning periodically, and the outdoor unit should stay clear of leaves, grass clippings and shrubs.
