What the job involves
A hot surface ignitor glows to light the burners, and the flame sensor tells the control board the flame is actually burning. When the ignitor cracks, or the sensor gets coated in residue, the furnace either never lights or lights and quickly shuts down to stay safe. That short-cycling is the furnace protecting you, not failing you. We pull the burner compartment apart, test the components against the control sequence, clean or replace what has gone bad, then watch a full heating cycle before we pack up. If you ever smell gas, leave the house first, call 911 or your gas utility from outside, then call us.
What we check and install
We start with the call for heat and follow it through: thermostat signal, control board, ignitor resistance, gas valve response, and the microamp reading off the flame sensor. A weak sensor signal often means cleaning, not replacing. A cracked or open ignitor gets a matched replacement, since the wrong one burns out fast. We also look at the flue, the burners, and the filter, because restricted airflow and soot are usually what killed the parts in the first place. Fixing the cause keeps the new parts alive longer.
How we decide it is the right call
We decide by what the furnace actually does, not by guesswork. Three clicks and no glow points at the ignitor or its circuit. A clean light followed by a shutdown in five to ten seconds points at the flame sensor. If the readings say the control board or gas valve is the real problem, we tell you that instead of selling parts you do not need. On older systems with repeat failures and rust in the heat exchanger area, we will walk you through replacement options honestly and let you decide.

How long does an ignitor replacement take?
Most ignitor replacements are a single visit. Once we confirm the diagnosis and have the matching part on the truck, the swap and a full test cycle usually take under an hour.
Can a dirty flame sensor be cleaned instead of replaced?
Often yes. Light residue on the sensor rod can be cleaned and the microamp signal rechecked. If the reading stays weak after cleaning, the sensor is worn and we replace it.
Why did my new ignitor fail again so soon?
Usually something else is stressing it, such as a clogged filter, closed vents, a weak control board, or short-cycling. We look for that cause during the heater repair visit rather than just fitting another part.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptoms
You describe what changed. No cold air, a breaker that keeps tripping, water near the air handler, a smell, a noise. That gives us a head start on parts before we ever leave the shop.
- Step 2
We diagnose on site
A technician checks the thermostat, the electrical side, airflow through the filter and coil, refrigerant behavior and the outdoor unit. We look at the whole system, because a frozen coil usually points somewhere else.
- Step 3
You decide the repair
We explain what failed, what it takes to fix it, and how long the rest of the system is likely to hold up. You pick the repair. We do not start work you did not approve.

Why homeowners call us
- Rural routes are normal for usWe drive long stretches between calls and we plan for it. Trucks carry the common heat pump and air conditioner repair parts so a diagnosis does not turn into a second trip on a hot afternoon.
- Heat pumps and sandy soilMost homes we visit run a heat pump, and sand, lawn clippings and pollen pack the outdoor coil fast. We clear it, check the defrost side in winter, and show you what we found before we close it up.
- Well water housesHomes on well water bring their own quirks, from pump-driven electrical noise to hard water on drain lines and condensate pans. We know where those systems clog and where the slow leaks hide.
- Heating repair tooCold snaps in this region are short and hard. We do heating repair and heater repair on heat pumps, strip heat and furnaces, so one crew handles your system in July and again in January.
- All major brands, gas & electricOne independent crew for Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem and more.
- Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
